Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is a solemn, sobering day, traditionally observed with, among other things, an extensive Confession and Imposition of Ashes. The theme for the day is one of repentance and a recalling of our baptism, reinforced by making the sign of the cross as a reminder of our mortality, and our need for God’s love and grace.
Due to our continued observance of Covid-19 precautions, Ash Wednesday worship will be available on YouTube sometime late afternoon on Wednesday, February 17. The service will include the Imposition of Ashes between the Pastor and Worship Assistant. If those viewing at home would like to participate during this part of the service, you can simply mark the sign of the cross on your own hand or forehead, or do the same for each other, if there are others viewing at your location. And remember to include these words: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
The presence of ashes is not required, though if desired you can prepare by scorching a wine bottle cork, burning palms you may have saved from previous Palm Sundays and mixing the ashes with a bit of olive oil, or taking a bit of soil from a garden and using this for application to forehead or hand.
